The primary purpose of this website is to showcase writing. It began as a personal project, a forum for my poetry, essays, and stories, but it has grown to something bigger and better since then - filled with articles and stories written by all sorts of people with a variety of ideas and opinions. After all, I thought it was only fair that I give others a chance to be heard. But some of you might ask why its necessary to put yourself out there, or even a simpler question, Why write? I cant tell you why other people write, but I write out of compulsion; a thirst to create and a desire for an escape. Just like reading a book allows you to go somewhere else, writing allows you to create a world of your own. That world has become my salvation when my life wasnt at its best. But there is a more basic reason. I crave an identity, and the chance to be honest with myself. Sometimes there are things that you can't discuss with friends, whether because you are afraid of hurting them or maybe just because, at times, your thoughts and feelings are much too personal to be bluntly stated in everyday conversations. Writing allows for me to sort through these feelings without fear of criticism. Sometimes I sort through my problems directly in my private diaries or even in my published essays. By writing about how I feel, I get a tangible identity allowing me to deal with whatever chance throws at me. There are other times, however, when I use stories and poetry as an outlet for my feelings, a sort of communication between my subconscious and the rest of me. It helps me understand my general mindset, and, over the years, has become necessary for my mental health. Writing has also made me more open-minded, and given me a better understanding of the world around me. Through characters and plots, I put everyday people and situations in a different light. By putting myself in someone elses place, it helps me to better understand human psychology and the way life works in general. In the end, I write for myself not for other people. I enjoy the audience, but writing has come to mean more to me than something to brag about. Its become life itself.
