Imagine 4 birds pecking away at the bark of a tree. This is the essence of my family, pecking away at my sanity.

My father would be happiest if I were his identical twin. For about a year, these five messages were drilled into my head:
1) You should go to a great college, preferably Harvard.
2) You should get straight A's
3) You should go to the National Science Fair like me.
4) You should really focus more on "important things" like science, and waste less time on the "artsy" stuff. There needs to be "balance."
5) If you don't follow 1 and 2, I won't say it, but I'll be disappointed in you.

Mother tries hard to make me happy, and she usually has great ideas, if only she told me about them in advance. Often she brings activities to me on the spot, with the implication that I can't say no. Thus, my schedule is inevitably hectic, because I really don't get prior notice when it comes to anything with her, so it's hard to plan ahead.

My little brother is the Energizer Bunny, constantly wired. It's not that he's mean - it's just that he has no judgement at all, and annoys me incessantly. Now sometimes this is on purpose, but when he's done that, I must admit that it's usually in response to me spazzing out, after he hadn't annoyed me on purpose. (Hehe...... I have a very volatile temper, when I let it show, which really doesn't occur unless you really, really get me angry, and I hope that isn't too often.)

I guess the best way to describe my sister is as my polar opposite. She is much more into the fads and the latest trends, listens to popular music, and strives to fit in. I am entirely different; I am an intellectual, independent person who strives to stick out and bask in the limelight. In contrast to me, my sister is a very shy person. At opposite ends of the spectrum, she and I are two competing forces which
always seem to clash. I long ago concluded that she has commited herself to make my life a living hell. That may be stretching it a little, but I think it's fair to say that the relationship between my sister and me is a prime example of sibling rivalry.
